Treating a black hole as a relativistic gas of microblack holes (planckions) which have fermionic character, expressions for some thermodynamic quantities are obtained. These have the same structure as those obtained by Hawking by other considerations.

The oxidation of orthorhombic Sb_{2}O_{3}, valentinite, to orthorhombic Sb_{2}O_{4}, cervantite, has been shown by single crystal xray diffraction techniques to be a topotactic reaction. The orientation relationships between the two lattices have been determined by making use of a hybrid crystal. It has been found that the individual axes in the two oxides are parallel. The two crystal structures have been compared in the appropriate orientation and their close similarity has been established. The shifts of the individual atoms in valentinite during the process of oxidation have been calculated to be not more than 0·6 Å. It has been established that the reduction of cervantite to valentinite also takes place topotactically.

We critically examine some recent claims that certain field theories with and without boson kinetic energy terms are equivalent. We point out that the crucial element in these claims is the finiteness or otherwise of the boson wavefunction renormalisation constant. We show that when this constant is finite, the equivalence proof offered in the literature fails in a direct way. When the constant is divergent, the claimed equivalence is only a consequence of improper use of divergent quantities.

We obtain the superconformal transformation laws for theN=2,D=4 SSYM. The transformations involve YangMills fields and the corresponding field strength tensor is not constrained to be self antidual. We explicitly demonstrate the closure of the superconformal algebra.

The effect of pressure on the conductivity of AgIAg_{2}OMoO_{3} glasses has been reexamined. A conductivity maximum is observed around 0·7 GPa. No variation of the sample temperature is noted under pressure. The results are found to agree well with the clustertissue model.

Zeeman (^{35}Cl) NQR studies in polycrystalline samples of 4,6dichloropyrimidine and 6 chloro 2,4 dimethoxypyrimidine show that the asymmetry at the four chemically inequivalent chlorine sites in the former is about 10%, while in the latter (one line) the asymmetry is almost zero. Using a valencebond picture, CCl bonds in 4,6dichloropyrimidine have been characterised, and the results are also compared with those in a corresponding benzene compound using a simple molecular orbital calculation. The axial symmetry of CCl bond in the second compound has been attributed to mesomeric effects.

We consider a class of Hamiltonians for a system of one localized spin1/2 particle per lattice site with the total spin as a good quantum number. We introduce a set of conditions in the form of a hypothesis relating the subpartition function, which is the partition function defined by the subset of energies with a specific value of spin. If the equality in the hypothesis is satisfied, then the system undergoes a phase transition as a consequence of YangLee theorem. As an application, we estimate the bounds on the spectrum of the Heisenberg Hamiltonian.
