The effect of medium properties on the energy loss suffered by a relativistic charged particle in a dielectric medium generating Cerenkov radiation is discussed. Here we have taken into account the effect of the coupling of the longitudinal (σ) mode with the transverse (λ) mode in the electromagnetic interaction. Calculation shows that the inclusion of λσ coupling in the transverse interaction affects significantly the radiation output. However the modification of the radiation due to the thermal state of the system becomes important at very high temperatures such as one finds in astrophysical situations. This temperature effect is negligible at ordinary temperatures and thus is undetectable in laboratory experiments.

It is demonstrated that the practical range of a beta spectrum (E_{max}=E) in any material can be obtained from mass absorption coefficient (μ/ρ) values. It is further shown that a semiempirical relation likeμ/ρ =AE^{−B} in whichA andB are related to the atomic numberZ, of the absorber can be used for determiningμ/ρ of any material of known atomic numberZ. The yield and energy distribution of longrange alphaparticles (lra) emitted from neutroninduced fission of^{235}U have been measured at neutron energies; thermal, 125±12, 155±11, 185±10, 210±9, 240±9, 365±50 and 480±45 keV. The longrange alphaparticles were detected in cellulose nitrate track detector foils. Results showed an increase of about 50% in the yield at neutron energies in the region 150 keV≤E_{n}≤220 keV as compared to that of thermal neutrons. A calculation has been carried out to extract thelra to binary fission ratio forpwave neutron induced fission.

We give current algebra arguments to show that toO(α) the colour octet vertices do not renormalize the effective weak vertex between colour singlet hadrons in models with broken colour symmetry. The result does not depend on the details of the mixing between colour gluons and electroweak bosons.

In this paper we consider the experimentally observed dibaryons as sixquark states. The mass spectrum ofSwave sixquark states is investigated in the recently developed variable pressure bag model. There is very good qualitative agreement between theory and experiment.
